Volunteering in Gahanna with the Parks & Recreations Department

By Donna Shea

Deaprtment of Parks & Recreation

The City of Gahanna Department of Parks & Recreation is present in the community year-round, and as such, has an on-going need for volunteers of all ages for its events and programs!

If you are looking for an opportunity to give back to your community, are in need of service hours for civic, school or church organizations, or like to have fun while being a part of a city function, give the department a call today!

Some of the different ways volunteers help the department:
Reduce staffing costs, provide fresh ideas, inspire others with their willing-spirit, make jobs easier and run more efficiently, create a friendly community atmosphere for guests to our community; they show that people care about Gahanna and that it is a great place to live, work, play, and retire! Volunteers inspire a feeling of pride for our hometown and make others want to be a part of the community.

How do volunteers do this:
Too many ways to count!

Kate Mattison, Recreation Specialist, heads up many of the department’s special events, and she can be reached at (614) 342-4250 or kate.mattison@gahanna.gov

If you are a teenager and looking for a way to be more involved in bringing great programming to teens, join the Gahanna Youth Council (GYC), a volunteer teen group that meets weekly at the City. GYC’s biggest event of the year is the Annual TeenFest, but they also work on other projects throughout the year. Shannon Clonch, Recreation Supervisor, leads this group. For more information, call (614) 342-4250 or email shannon.clonch@gahanna.gov

Possibly you have a neighborhood group that enjoys working in the neighborhood but needs tools or guidance, give Mike Musser a call!
Mike Musser, Recreation Superintendant, coordinates the big natural resources events, such as Make a Difference Day in late October and Natural Resources Week in mid-April. He can be reached at (614) 342-4250 or mike.musser@gahanna.gov

No matter what the season of the year, we need your help out in the community providing clean parks, trails, and neighborhoods as well as fun, family-oriented events!
